About Us
The Bum Note Club is essentially a really long, indulgent pub conversation about music gear.
Run by Andy and Dermot, it’s the site that we – as music gear nuts – really wanted to find, but couldn’t.
It started when we both found ourselves in a band. A band is many things, not least an excuse to accumulate all the kind of weird and wonderful instruments that we’ve wanted to get for ages. During the course of a number of years, as well as buying more gear, we toured, formed our own record label and released two albums. And then bought some more gear.
What we also discovered was that there was a whole bunch of people who were interested in the instruments and amps we were playing, and how we played them (Dobro in open G, since you ask).
We found ourselves in a lot of conversations and email exchanges discussing everything from replacement valves for Fender Twin Reverbs to finding the best way to fix broken Vox Continental Organ keys (Lego bricks and Araldite). Think of The Bum Note Club as our way of continuing that, and getting to know about you and your gear as well.
We’re also hoping that – somewhere along the line – we can help you with some of the things we’ve had to get our heads around, whether it’s introducing you to some of the people who have helped us along the way (from keyboard techs and pedal steel gurus to studio engineers) to making a music website that good for Google or in putting together a ‘proper’ album release.
Above all it’s a club, so if you’re interested in what we’re about, we’d love to have you drop by and say ‘hello’. You’re welcome, so come on down to the Bum Note Club.
