Brings a tear to your eye

I found this strange beast while staying with some friend in Rye. I was drawn in by one of those ridiculously large Mexican acoustic basses in the window and was then confronted by this. It’s a D'Aquisto, but I really can’t imagine your average jazz guitarist going for one of these. For those of you that are unaware, D’Aquisto are one of the premier hand-made archtop guitar brands. In truth, I don’t really know what the extra ‘teardrop’ aspect of the body is for (presumably to add resonance of some kind?) As much as I would have loved to have a play, the fact that it came with a £4k price tag (and was carefully hung away from easy access) put me off.
