RIP: Jack Rose

Hypnotic old time music, courtesy of Jack Rose and The Black Twig Pickers

Just a month ago we saw Jack Rose (far right) play at the Komedia, Brighton. Rose died this weekend aged just 38; there are plenty of tributes and eulogies online already so we'll just raise a (whisky) glass to him. Great player, great shame. Below's our original post-gig post and a couple of sadly too-dark video clips of the show.

(03/11/2009) Have seen Jack Rose on a number of occasions, but always playing on his own. This time around, Jack's ragtime fingerpicking and Weissenborn slide playing was accompanied by some of his of his old-timey friends from Virginia (The Black Twig Pickers). Fantastic combination... minimalist and totally haunting. Apologies for the very dark video material.
