The man needs no introduction, but here goes: Organ grinder for The Small Faces and The Faces, hired hand for The Rolling Stones, short of stature, sharp of barnet and scourge of Holiday Inns worldwide, Ian McLagan is a legend. What was the first instrument you ever owned?
A spanish guitar, but the first keyboard was a Hohner Cembalet.
What's you main instrument and why?
Hammond B3 and Leslie 122 because they sound incredible.
You're in a music shop checking out an organ. What's the first thing you play?
Green Onions.
Describe your sound
I think it's soulful.
There's a fire and you can only save one instrument. What is it?
My 1972 Zemaitis acoustic.
Who or what made you want to play the keys?
Otis Spann and Booker T. Jones.
What item of musical gear have you always wanted to get your hands on but has so far eluded you?
I had a Steinway grand piano in the early '70s, but I want another.
What's the most expensive piece of junk you've bought?
I haven't.
Which item of gear is it really time you returned to it's owner?
Nothing.
